How to install & Unistall Node in Ubuntu ?

There are several steps for Uninstall/Remove node.js from Ubuntu 16.04. 

  • Open terminal by ctrl+alt+t and run below commands

           sudo apt-get purge nodejs
           sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove nodejs
           sudo apt-get autoremove

  • Remove folder from home directory - .nvm, .node-gyp
  • Remove global library folders using below commands

           sudo rm -rf /usr/local/bin/npm /usr/local/share/man/man1/node* /usr/local/lib/dtrace/node.d ~/.npm ~/.node-gyp /opt/local/bin/node opt/local/include/node /opt/local/lib/node_modules

           sudo rm -rf /usr/local/lib/node*
           sudo rm -rf /usr/local/include/node*
           sudo rm -rf /usr/local/bin/node*
           sudo rm -rf  /usr/local/lib/node_modules/npm/
           sudo rm -rf  /usr/local/lib/node_modules/@angular/

After removed npm, node, angularcli.


Now, Install Node with different version using NVM

  1. sudo apt-get install build-essential libssl-dev
  2. curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/creationix/nvm/v0.33.8/install.sh -o install_nvm.sh
  3. nano install_nvm.sh
  4. bash install_nvm.sh
  5. source ~/.profile
  6. nvm ls-remote (List of all Node versions)
  7. nvm install <version number> (example: nvm install 8.11.3)
  8. nvm use 8.11.3 (After install multiple version of node, we can set needed version.)
  9. nvm alias default 8.11.3 (we want to set node version as default.)
  10. nvm use default
  11. nvm help (Help)

Next, Install @angular/cli on specific node version.

  1. npm install -g @angular/cli (Install latest version of @angular/cli)
  2. npm install -g @angular/cli@1.4.10 (Install specific version of @angular/cli)
